Andrews: FAI would be 'mad' not to keep Trap

Republic of Ireland midfielder Keith Andrews has said the FAI would be "mad" not to keep Giovanni Trapattoni on as manager.

The Ipswich man, who scored Ireland's first goal in their 4-0 win over Estonia in Tallin on Friday night, said it would be "ludicrous" if the FAI didn't continue to build on the success the Italian has brought.

Asked if the manager was here to stay, Andrews said: "I would imagine so, it would be ludicrous if they didn't try and build on this, good things don't happen overnight.

"He has come in and he has built a system, a squad, a team that has a real togetherness and a formula that has become very successful.

"They would be mad to not try and keep him."

Asked about the Euro 2012 campaign overall, Andrews said that the squad tried to put the events from two years ago in Paris behind them.

He said: "Since Paris we have stuck together through thick and thin, obviously that was a low point in all of our careers and I think since then we have done quite well.

"We have grown as a group and become even more close-knitted, if that was possible.

"There are no prima-donnas in this team, there is no egos, we love joining up and getting together."
