Anto Flood’s fortuitous extra-time winner ended 10-man Dundalk’s resistance as Bohemians laboured into the semi-finals of the FAI Ford Cup.

Meeting for the third time in nine days, it took almost 200 minutes of football for the deadlock to be broken in this quarter-final following tonight’s replay at Dalymount Park.

The goal came 18 minutes into extra-time when striker Flood got his head to a miscued shot by Mark Rossiter, following Killian Brennan’s free-kick, to beat Peter Cherrie in the Dundalk goal.

Mark Quigley then almost forced a penalty shootout a minute from the end of extra-time, but Bohs’ keeper Barry Murphy turned his long-range shot round a post.

Bohs started the better but it was Murphy who had to make the first stop of the night from Quigley’s acrobatic volley on 15 minutes after good approach play by Mark Griffin and Nathan Murphy.

The home side enjoyed good possession but frustrated their support by making little of it in front of goal.

Dundalk were better in the second half but suffered a blow on 76 minutes when midfielder Dean Bennett was sent off following a tackle on Killian

Brennan.

Minutes later Quigley’s stunning free-kick almost gave them the lead as it whizzed narrowly wide.
