First for Vukcevic as Rovers beat Leyton Orient

New signing Simon Vukcevic scored his first Blackburn goal as Rovers beat League One Leyton Orient 3-2 in the Carling Cup third round at Ewood Park.

Jason Roberts put the hosts ahead with a penalty just before half-time only for David Mooney to equalise after the break.

However, Ruben Rochina made it 2-1 with a simple tap-in and Vukcevic drilled in his maiden goal before Dean Cox added a late consolation for the visitors.

Hoilett, a half-time substitute, was denied by Butcher for a second time after cutting in from the left as Blackburn looked to finish off the tie.

That was accomplished in the 75th minute when Vukcevic drilled home a left-footed shot after Ryan Lowe’s cross was only half-cleared.

But there was no straightforward end for Rovers as Cox’s shot went in off the post with three minutes remaining, although it came too late to force extra time.
