Berbatov and Owen start for United

Dimitar Berbatov and Michael Owen were handed their first starts of the season by Alex Ferguson as Manchester United faced a volatile atmosphere against Leeds at Elland Road.

It was a visiting line-up boasting Ryan Giggs at one end of the experience scale and teenage defender Ezekiel Fryers making his debut at the other.

Leeds boss Simon Grayson – who masterminded an FA Cup win over the Red Devils in January 2010 – stuck largely to the side that defeated Bristol City at the weekend, Leigh Bromby replacing the suspended Patrick Kisnorbo and Ramon Nunez losing his place to Luciano Becchio.
