Derry City had to come from behind for a vital victory which restores them to the top of the Premier Division table after champions Shamrock Rovers lost at home to Sligo.

Stephen Kenny's side are now a point clear at the top, though Shamrock Rovers do have a game in hand.

The Students stunned the Brandwell crowd to take a 19th minute lead when striker Graham Rusk collected the ball following an incisive move to chip it over the advancing Ger Doherty.

Derry rallied in the second half and were finally level on 70 minutes. Eamon Zayed set up skipper Kevin Deery who fired past Ger Barron.

Substitute David McDaid, on the pitch scarcely five minutes, then won it for Derry on 84 minutes when shooting home from Barry Molloy's cross.
