Inter Milan have completed the signing of Uruguay international Diego Forlan from Atletico Madrid on a two-year contract, the Serie A club have announced.

Forlan, 32, was part of the Uruguay team that won the Copa America during the summer and won the FIFA Golden Ball as the best player at the 2010 World Cup.

The former Independiente forward moved to Manchester United in 2001 before joining Villarreal in 2004. After three prolific seasons with the Yellow Submarine he joined Atletico and helped the Madrid outfit clinch the UEFA Cup and the UEFA Super Cup in 2010.

Forlan’s move to Inter comes after the Italian giants sold Cameroon international Samuel Eto’o to Russian outfit Anzhi Makhachkala.

“Diego, welcome to Inter,” read a statement on Inter's website, inter.it.

“His stats tell the story of a top player that wants to continue to write new pages of his beautiful career with Inter.”
