Jason Byrne's first goal in three months salvaged a point for Dundalk in a thrilling Louth derby at Hunky Dorys Park tonight.

Dundalk started well and were in front on 13 minutes through Mark Griffin who volleyed home Daniel Kearns' cross.

Drogheda battled back into the game and equalised three minutes before half-time.

Tiarnan Mulvenna began and finished the move, linking with Philip Hand, whose cross he blasted to the net.

Drogheda skipper Dave Rogers then fired his side ahead from a penalty six minutes into the second half after Mark O'Brien had been upended by Ross Gaynor.

But Dundalk caught Drogheda on a counterattack to level on 76 minutes with Griffin setting up Byrne to chip past Stephen Trimble.
