Defender Ashley Williams has agreed a new three-year contract with Swansea just days before the club begin their first Premier League campaign.

Williams, 26, had two years remaining on his existing deal but manager Brendan Rodgers had been keen to tie the Wales international to a long-term deal.

Williams follows the likes of captain Garry Monk. Neil Taylor, Joe Allen, Angel Rangel and Andrea Orlandi in penning new deals at the Liberty Stadium.

Williams told the club website: “It was one of the easiest contract negotiations I have had in my career. Myself and the club knew what we wanted and the talks were really relaxed.

“I had two years left, but this really allows me to focus on my football here and do as much as I can for the club.”
