Zayed brace takes points for Derry

Eamon Zayed scored twice this evening as the league's leading scorer brought his tally to 19 for the season.

While the win moves Derry to the top of the table on goal difference ahead of Shamrock Rovers until Sligo Rovers play on Sunday, bottom side Galway's misery continued as their run of league defeats extends now to 19.

Zayed fired Derry in front from an 11th-minute penalty after midfielder Barry Molloy had been fouled inside the area.

Patrick McEleney did the spade worked as Derry doubled their lead four minutes before the break, the young strikers run and cross down the left leaving Zayed to scoop home his second goal of the night.

Zayed returned the compliment on 76 minutes when he broke down the right to cross for McEleney to turn and shoot beyond Conor Winn.
