Maradona 'fine' following car crash

Argentina legend Diego Maradona has suffered minor injuries in a car accident on the outskirts of Buenos Aires.

The 50-year-old and his partner Veronica Ojeda were taken to hospital after the car he was driving reportedly hit a bus, hours before Argentina’s Copa America clash with Costa Rica.

Maradona was said to have hurt his knee and Ojeda her hip, but Oscar Sico, director at Hospital de Ezeiza, allayed fears over the severity of their injuries.

He told Radio 10: “They are in perfect condition.”

Sico added on television news channel C5N: “They went on their own [to hospital] but have no problems. They can both go home.”

The cause of the accident is under investigation.

Maradona captained his country to World Cup glory in 1986 and coached Argentina for two years until 2010.
