Reina awaits pre-season after hernia op

Liverpool goalkeeper Jose Reina is expected to be fit for the start of pre-season training after undergoing surgery on a double hernia.

The Spain international had the operation on Thursday in Munich, having been accompanied to Germany by the national team doctor Juan Jose Garcia Cota.

Reina played every minute of all 38 Premier League matches last season and the surgery had been planned by Liverpool prior to him joining up with Spain at the end of the domestic season.

The 28-year-old is currently on holiday but will begin a rehabilitation programme and the club said in a statement on their website that they expect him to return with the rest of the squad for pre-season training early next month.
