Graham Cummins hit a cracking 11th goal of the season to put Cork City into the semi-finals of the EA Sports Cup.

The win for Tommy Dunne’s First Division promotion-chasers ended St. Patrick’s 12-match unbeaten run.

Cummins struck for the winner on 71 minutes when collecting midfielder Vincent Escude-Candau's astute pass to curl a terrific shot beyond Chris Bennion in the visitors’ goal.

Cork keeper Mark McNulty then pulled off an amazing double save to deprive Dave Mulcahy and Daryl Kavanagh in stoppage time.

Frenchman Escude-Candau also provided the assist for Cork’s lead goal on 19 minutes when setting up Derek O’Brien to blast to the net.

St. Patrick’s were well in the game, though, and levelled 13 minutes into the second half when defender Neil Harney headed home from a Sean Stewart cross.
