Eoin Doyle maintained his rich vein of goalscoring form with a brace to bring his tally for the season to 10 - and lift Sligo up to second place in the Premier Division table on the back of a third win on the spin.

Early goals from in-form Doyle and John Russell sent Sligo on their way to one of their most comfortable Connacht derby wins at the Showgrounds as second bottom Galway slumped to an eighth successive defeat.

Doyle struck for the lead on 16 minutes when sliding in to finish off Aaron Greene’s cross from the left.

Midfielder Russell notched his first goal of the season five minutes later, scooping home the rebound after Galway keeper Greg Fleming could only parry a shot from Doyle.

The game was over as a contest within four minutes of the second half when Doyle tapped home his second of the night - and seventh in three games - from Alan Keane’s cross.
