Sluggish Hoops suffer first loss of season

Bray ended the assumption that champions Shamrock Rovers will run away with the league this year as they inflicted a first defeat of the season on the Hoops.

Skipper Danny O'Connor was Bray's matchwinner with the only goal of the game as early as the sixth minute.

Defender Dave Webster and midfield partner Gary Dempsey did the spade work in the build up to the goal with O'Connor firing past Alan Mannus from just outside the area.

Rovers, who lost top scorer Gary Twigg with a hamstring injury before half-time, were surprisingly sluggish throughout with their only real effort not coming until the 80th minute when substitute Dean Kelly headed wide.
