We need to win against Drogheda, says Galway boss
Galway United take on Drogheda United in tonight’s Airtricity League Premier Division clash at Hunky Dorys Park this evening (kick-off 7.45pm).
Sean Connor’s squad travel with a few injury concerns ahead of the game as Gary Curran remains out with a broken metatarsal and Steve Feeney is still recovering from an ankle injury.
Alan Murphy is a doubt as he is struggling with a groin strain while Enda Curran is also a doubt with a similar injury.
Galway boss Connor said: "This is one of the games we need to win. Lots of other managers bemoan their budgets, but at the end of the day, ourselves and Drogheda have the smallest budgets in the league, so if we have any aspirations of staying in the league then this is a game that we have to win.
"We would have liked to have kept the run going against Sligo last Friday, but we just need to look ahead to Drogheda now and aim for the three points.”
The home side are still searching for their first league win of the season.
Alan McNally is the only injury concern for Drogheda. The centre-half may not be fit to start against Galway but should return to the Drogheda squad next week.
United boss Mick Cooke said: “I wouldn't say the loss to Shamrock Rovers on Friday night was a blow, we were playing the top team in the league.
“I was disappointed with the performance of a few of the players. Some of the lads seem to think that we are only challenging with UCD, Galway and Bray. But we need to take points off the top sides.
“I am confident going into tonight’s match. I’d love to get a win. We do need to put some more points on the board, I've been in this position before and if we don't get points it is not a very nice position to be in.”
