Rookie goalkeeper to continue for Drogs against Bohs

Drogheda United will be looking to get some points on the board as they face a daunting away day at Dalymount Park to take on Bohemians, kick-off 7.45pm.

The County Louth outfit suffered a disappointing home defeat to UCD last week and new boss Mick Cooke will be hoping for a better outcome in Dublin tonight.

United may have a goalkeeping dilemma as the season progresses as Robert Duggan left the club during week.

Rookie keeper, David Quirke, who played against UCD last week, will start in goal.

United boss Cooke said: “We're really looking forward to our first trip to Dalymount this season.

“I was happy with our performance against UCD but this week we will be more adventurous. We've had a very good week's training, have no injuries, no suspensions and the lads are working very well together.”

For Bohemians, Robert Bayly is suspended for the second match of a three-match ban and assistant manager Liam O’Brien begins a two-match suspension from the touchline.

Defender Liam Burns has returned to training after a hamstring injury but is unlikely to be fit enough for selection.

Keeper Barry Murphy has also resumed training after recovering from a back injury and could be in the starting line-up.

Fellow keeper Chris O’Connor (shoulder) remains out for another four weeks and midfielder Glen Cronin (cruciate) for a further two months.

Gypsies boss Pat Fenlon is not underestimating the threat that Drogheda might pose for his side.

Fenlon said: “They’re possibly the only team behind us in terms of preparation. But I know Mick Cooke will have them organised and make them difficult to beat.

“We’re not good enough to disrespect anyone or be complacent. We need to keep ourselves focused and try to win the game.”
