Sligo's title challenge off to good start
Derry City 0 Sligo Rovers 1
Aaron Greene scored a dramatic late winner as Sligo got their title challenge up and running with victory at the Brandywell.
Derry only have themselves to blame for not taking at least a point from the game as they wasted a double chance from a 40th minute penalty.
Jason McGuinness took down Gareth McGlynn, but new signing Eamon Zayed's spot kick was saved by Sligo's new keeper Brendan Clarke and Zayed then blasted the rebound over the bar.
Sligo edged the possession, but Clarke had to make another good save to deprive Daniel Lafferty on 68 minutes.
Paul Cook's side then snatched the win with the game's only goal on 88 minutes.
The prodigal Raffaele Cretaro did well to create the opening for fellow substitute Greene to score at the back post.
