A woman has been charged with harassment of Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand, police sources confirmed.

The English defender has allegedly been plagued by Susanne Ibru, 38, turning up at his home and asking to speak to him.

Ferdinand, 32, who lives in Alderley Edge, Cheshire, with his wife Rebecca and their two sons, alerted police and Ibru, of the Friary Estate, Peckham, south London, was arrested and charged.

A spokeswoman for Cheshire Magistrates said Ibru, who denies the allegations, was bailed until March 2 when she will attend a pre-trial hearing at Knutsford Magistrates Court.
