Torres starts, Suarez on the bench for Reds
The most expensive player in British football, Fernando Torres, was handed his Chelsea debut against former club Liverpool as Carlo Ancelotti opted to include all three of his front-line strikers at Stamford Bridge.
The £50m man was named alongside Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka just a week after completing his acrimonious move from Anfield.
Chelsea’s other new signing, £20m defender David Luiz, was among the substitutes, while Liverpool kept Luis Suarez on their bench.
