Magpies reject improved Carroll bid

Newcastle have rejected a second bid from Liverpool for striker Andy Carroll, it is understood.

Newcastle striker Andy Carroll was tonight at the centre of a tug-of-war as the club rejected a second offer from Liverpool for him.

The Magpies are understood to have rebuffed the Reds’ new approach after turning down an offer amounting to £30m earlier today for the 22-year-old.

It is understood the Anfield club came back with a higher figure, but that has as yet failed to persuade Newcastle to part with a man who has proved key to their hopes of retaining their Barclays Premier League status.
