Leverkusen go third
Bayer Leverkusen moved up to third in the Bundesliga with a 3-1 win at basement boys Borussia Monchengladbach this afternoon.
Michal Kadlec put the visitors in front in the 37th minute and Gonzalo Castro added a second on the stroke of half-time.
Martin Stranzl pulled one back for Monchengladbach, who are in danger of being cut adrift at the the foot of the table, before Castro’s second of the game in the 73rd minute sealed the win for Leverkusen.
The victory moved Leverkusen above Mainz, Bayern Munich and Hannover, but 11 points still separate them from leaders Borussia Dortmund.
St Pauli dropped two valuable points in their fight against relegation as they conceded a 90th-minute equaliser to draw 2-2 at Hoffenheim this afternoon.
The visitors looked to be heading for victory after scoring twice in the second half through Max Kruse and Gerald Asamoah following Marvin Compper’s first-half opener for Hoffenheim.
But David Alaba’s deflected strike snatched a draw for the hosts to leave St Pauli third-bottom.
They are three points ahead of second-bottom Stuttgart and six clear of Gladbach.
