Compromise reached for Northern Ireland's Serbia trip

Some Northern Ireland supporters will be allowed to attend the Euro 2012 qualifier away to Serbia, which is being played behind closed doors in March.

The decision comes following a meeting between governing body UEFA, the FAI and the Amalgamation of Northern Ireland Supporters Clubs.

A statement released by the IFA read: “Further meetings will be held between the Irish FA, UEFA, the Amalgamation of Northern Ireland Supporters Clubs, the Serbian authorities and other relevant bodies in order to further develop these arrangements.”

It added: “As a goodwill gesture, UEFA have offered a complimentary ticket to the 2011 Europa League Final in Dublin in May to anyone who had already booked their ticket to Serbia and now does not wish to travel.”

Italy were awarded a 3-0 victory against Serbia after their qualifier was abandoned because of crowd trouble.
