Two players looking to have Bohemians wound-up

The future of Bohemians once again hangs in the balance with confirmation that two players are still seeking to have the club wound-up over the non-payment of wages.

Stuart Gilhooley, the solicitor representing the unnamed players, has said that following failed negotiations with the club yesterday, the players had instructed him to issue proceedings to wind up the company.

“It is our belief that Bohemians do have funds at the moment, but have chosen not to pay the players.

“During the day, they indicated that they might be in a position to pay the players some monies owed, but they made the offer on the basis of conditions that were unacceptable to the players.

“Therefore, they have instructed me to issue proceedings to wind up the company at the earliest possible juncture."

The move comes against the backdrop of continuing efforts by the cash-strapped former champions to raise funds to secure the club’s future and, more urgently, to resolve the problem of unpaid wages to a number of players ahead of the January 3 club licensing deadline, which will determine if Bohemians can participate in the top flight for the coming season.

Seven out of contract players have already left Dalymount Park since the end of last season and manager Pat Fenlon was due to reconvene with his remaining playing staff for the first day of pre-season training yesterday.

It is expected that the petition to wind-up Bohemians will be lodged at the High Court today.

Last night a spokesman for Bohs’ said it was incorrect to say that an offer had been made to the players yesterday and added that Gilhooley’s statement has been referred to the clubs solicitors.
