Milan confirm Cassano swoop

AC Milan have confirmed the signing of Italy striker Antonio Cassano from Sampdoria.

AC Milan have confirmed the signing of Italy striker Antonio Cassano from Sampdoria.

The player had been training with the Serie A leaders in Dubai and now the club have made his move official.

A short statement on the club’s official website, www.acmilan.com, read: “AC Milan announce the acquisition of Antonio Cassano.”

Milan had confirmed last month they were in negotiations with the player after his relationship with Sampdoria reached rock bottom following a heated row with president Riccardo Garrone.

The club had wanted to terminate the player’s contract and, although they were not allowed to do so by a Lega Serie A arbitration panel, the player was suspended until January 31.

His wages were also to be reduced by 50% for the duration of his contract.

However, the dispute was internal and concerned only Sampdoria thus freeing him up to play at once for Milan who next face Cagliari on Thursday.
