More cup heartache for St Pat's

A stunning goal from Chris Turner put Shamrock Rovers through to the FAI Ford Cup final with Sligo Rovers on November 14 as St Patrick’s quest for their Holy Grail of another cup win will see the half century at least.

After a tight first half in which St Pat’s edged proceedings, the game turned Rovers' way eight minutes into the second half.

St Pat’s keeper Gary Rogers had just made a terrific one-handed save from Dessie Baker’s looping header before the home side were reduced to 10 men.

Gary Twigg latched onto Baker’s flick and was hauled down by St Pat’s skipper Damian Lynch who was shown a straight red card.

Rovers then won it with a wonderfully contrived goal on 70 minutes.

Midfielder Turner was initially involved prior to Twigg chesting the ball down for the ex-Northern Ireland U-21 international to score with a terrific drive from the edge of the area.
