Galway goalkeeper may not travel for relegation battle

Dundalk and Galway United go head-to-head in tonight’s Airtricity League Premier Division clash at Oriel Park, kick-off 7.45pm.

And both sides are desperate for points as they battle to avoid the relegation play-off between eighth and ninth in the table.

Galway boss Sean Connor has several selection concerns ahead of the trip to face his former club.

Seamus Conneely and Jamie McKenzie are both ruled out of the game as they are serving suspensions.

Midfielder Stephen O’Donnell and shot-stopper Barry Ryan are available for selection. However, the Galway keeper might not travel to Dundalk.

Ryan’s wife is expecting a baby and as a result, he might not be available for selection.

Galway manager Sean Connor said: “Lack of strength in depth has really hit us. We need three wins before the end of the season.”

Dundalk manager Ian Foster has a strong squad to choose from for the visit of his former side to Oriel Park.

Speaking about the Dundalk players who travelled with the Ireland Under-23 side to Estonia, Foster said: “The lads have come back from Estonia unscathed. They’ve all trained. Obviously, Ross (Gaynor) didn’t play but Garry (Breen) and Danny (Kearns) have come back fine.

“Shaun Kelly comes back from suspension, but we miss Johnny Breen. Everyone is OK. Stephen Maher obviously has a problem. Stephen has got a condition called osteitis pubis and he needs a long period of rest.

“Basically at the moment Stephen is just helping us by being on the bench and being an option for us for the last 15-20 minutes if we need him. But other than that everyone is firing and raring to go.”
