Wheels start coming off at St Pat’s
St Patrick’s Athletic 1 Dundalk 2
St Pat’s lost for the third match running as they finished with 10 men at Richmond Park tonight.
Dundalk hadn’t scored against St Pat’s in over 1,000 minutes before tonight, but ended that drought on 27 minutes when Daniel Kearns crossed for Matt Tipton to side foot home.
Two minutes later it got worse for St Pat’s as left-back Ian Bermingham was shown a straight red card for deliberately tripping midfielder Tom Miller.
Ross Gaynor doubled Dundalk’s lead on 52 minutes, drilling home from 16 yards after Faz Kuduzovic’s shot rebounded to him.
Skipper Damian Lynch threw St Pat’s a lifeline on 65 minutes when following up after Peter Cherrie had initially saved his penalty, awarded for a foul by Liam Burns on Conor Kenna.
St Pat’s couldn’t find an eqauliser and Tipton almost put Dundalk further ahead in the dying minutes but shot wide.
