Northampton striker Billy McKay set up the possibility of a major Carling Cup upset after his second-half equaliser took the League Two side’s third-round tie against Liverpool at Anfield into extra-time.

The hosts had led through Milan Jovanovic’s ninth-minute goal, his first for the club, but they paid the price for failing to capitalise on their possession.

The hosts tried to respond but Pacheco’s half-volley from Ryan Babel’s cross ballooned high over Dunn’s goal.

With five minutes to go the Reds pushed for the winner but the Northampton defence held out to force another 30 minutes’ play.
