No place for Keane despite Defoe absence

Republic of Ireland striker Robbie Keane has once again been left out by Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp, despite the injury to Jermain Defoe.

Republic of Ireland striker Robbie Keane has once again been left out by Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp, despite the injury to Jermain Defoe.

Redknapp has made five changes from the side beaten at home by Wigan for the Premier League clash at West Brom.

Redknapp lost the services of Defoe and defender Michael Dawson through injuries sustained on England duty while Ledley King, Benoit Assou-Ekotto and Peter Crouch are also not included in the starting line-up.

Newcomers William Gallas and £8m signing Rafael van der Vaart plus Luka Modric, Vedran Corluka and Roman Pavlyuchenko came into the side.

West Brom gave a debut to Paul Scharner who had been in the Wigan side beaten 9-1 at Tottenham last season while Jerome Thomas was fit to return.

They replaced James Morrison, suspended after his red card against Liverpool, and Graham Dorrans who had suffered a family bereavement.

West Brom: Carson, Jara, Tamas, Olsson, Shorey, Mulumbu, Odemwingie, Scharner, Brunt, Thomas, Fortune.

Subs: Myhill, Tchoyi, Pablo, Barnes, Bednar, Reid, Cox.

Tottenham: Cudicini, Corluka, Kaboul, Gallas, Bale, Lennon, Palacios, Huddlestone, Van der Vaart, Modric, Pavlyuchenko.

Subs: Pletikosa, Jenas, Keane, Crouch, Bassong, Kranjcar, Assou-Ekotto.
