The Republic of Ireland Under-21s depart for Switzerland today, with four changes to the squad originally announced for the double-header UEFA European Championship qualifying matches against Switzerland and Turkey.

The Republic of Ireland Under-21s depart for Switzerland today, with four changes to the squad originally announced for the double-header UEFA European Championship qualifying matches against Switzerland and Turkey.

Recent CSKA Moscow recruit, Cillian Sheridan, has been called up to the Republic of Ireland senior squad while Wigan's James McCarthy, Blackburn Rovers' Aaron Doran and Stephen Gleeson of MK Dons have all been ruled out through injury.

They will be replaced by Manchester United's Robbie Brady, Adam Rooney of Inverness CT, Celtic's Richie Towell and Graham Carey from Huddersfield Town.

Rooney has seven previous caps for the Republic of Ireland Under-21s, while Carey has represented his country five times at this age level.

Both Towell and Brady have been capped at Under-19 level but this will be their first involvement in the Under-21 squad.

The Republic of Ireland Under-21s face Switzerland on Friday before taking on Turkey next Tuesday.
