Jones to miss Shrewsbury tie

Stoke striker Kenwyne Jones will miss tomorrow’s Carling Cup second-round tie at home to Shrewsbury as his ankle injury is still causing him problems.

The £8m signing from Sunderland missed the weekend’s defeat by Tottenham and is a doubt for Saturday’s Premier match against Chelsea.

Fellow forward Mamady Sidibe has undergone an operation on the Achilles tendon he ruptured against Spurs and he is now a long-term absentee.

Manager Tony Pulis is likely to freshen up his starting line-up for the cup tie.

Provisional squad: Sorensen, Huth, Shawcross, Higginbotham, Delap, Whelan, Whitehead, Etherington, Fuller, Tuncay, Soares, Pugh, Faye, Collins, Wilkinson, Begovic, Walters.
