North Korea World Cup star snapped up by German side

North Korea striker Jong Tae-se has joined German second division side Bochum.

Jong has signed a contract until 2012 with the option of a further year after joining from Japanese outfit Kawasaki Frontale, Bochum confirmed on their official website.

The 26-year-old impressed in North Korea’s World Cup campaign, despite failing to score in their three group stage defeats.

“I wished with all my heart to be able to go to Europe,” said Jong, who was born in Japan to Korean parents.

“Bochum tried very hard to get me. That impressed me a lot. I am looking forward to my time in Bochum and hope that I can help Bochum get back into the Bundesliga.”
