James hints at England tensions

David James has hinted at dissatisfaction in the England camp with Fabio Capello’s custom of only unveiling the team shortly before kick-off.

Capello faced criticism from some quarters when it was revealed Robert Green only found out he was playing in England’s opener against the United States two hours prior to the match starting.

An error from Green gifted the USA their equaliser in Rustenburg, leading to the recall of James against Algeria last night.

And the Portsmouth goalkeeper revealed he too found out he was set for his World Cup debut shortly before the start.

He told BBC Five Live: “I found out five minutes before we got on the bus. Usual standard.”

He added later: “It’s nice to play and keep a clean sheet, defensively it was a decent performance.

“We train hard now for a few days and wait for the selection again five minutes before we leave again on Wednesday.”

Asked whether he was close to his fellow goalkeepers, James said: “I’m not close to anyone.”

England were poor last night and it was another disappointing performance following Saturday’s draw against the USA.

However, James declined to agree with Capello’s claim pressure could have had an effect on the players.

He told BBC Five Live: “Does he (think that)? Okay.”
