Burnley have signed midfielder Dean Marney from Hull for an undisclosed fee thought to be worth around £500,000.

Marney, 26, has agreed a three-year deal at Turf Moor and become manager Brian Laws’ first new signing of the summer.

Laws said: “It is a good way to start and I am delighted we have got Dean. Midfield is an area we wanted to strengthen and for a young age he has a lot of experience.”

Marney has ended a four-year stay with Hull after starting his career at Tottenham.

Laws said: “Dean has played for two years in the Premier League so he knows what is required.

“He is a box-to-box player, full of energy, and his link play with the midfield and forwards is exceptional.

“His pedigree, coming from Tottenham, shows that he can play and he will be a great addition to the squad.”
