Thompson agrees bew Clarets deal

Burnley striker Steven Thompson has agreed a new one-year deal with the option of a further 12-month extension at Turf Moor.

The 31-year-old, who made just one Barclays Premier League start, finished the season in style with four goals in the last six matches.

“He did really well last season and I’m delighted that he has agreed to stay,” said manager Brian Laws.

“I am delighted to have that experience in the squad and again he is a player who knows what’s required to get out of the Championship.”

The former Rangers and Dundee United striker has followed Michael Duff, Clarke Carlisle and Graham Alexander in signing new deals.

Midfielder Robbie Blake is still considering his contract offer from the Clarets.
