Bohs’ fall to First Division Monaghan

Monaghan United 1 Bohemians 1 (After extra-time: Monaghan win 4-3 on pens)

Goalkeeper Gabriel Sava was First Division Monaghan's hero as they knocked holders Bohemians out of the EA Sports Cup in a dramatic penalty shootout at Gortakeegan.

The 90 minutes failed to separate the sides before Bohs' Aaron Greene broke the deadlock seven minutes into extra-time when punishing Niall Flynn’s sloppy back pass to shoot past Sava.

But Monaghan levelled in the 110th minute; Sean Brennan did well to get in a cross and Alan Byrne arrived to head home.

The game finished 1-1 leading to a penalty shoot-out.

In the shoot-out, Bohs' Mark Quigley and Greene had their spot kicks saved by Sava as Karl Bermingham scored the decisive kick for Monaghan to win 4-3 on penalties.
