Headed goals, their first of the season, from Stephen Rice and skipper Dan Murray got Rovers back to winning ways to restore their third spot in the table.
Rice finally brought the game to life four minutes into the second half when getting on the end of Billy Dennehy's corner to score with a diving header.
Another super corner from Dennehy also brought reward on 70 minutes when Murray's downward header beat Barry Ryan in the Galway goal.
The westerner blew a chance to get back into the game on 88 minutes. Rice pushed over Jamie McKenzie to give away a penalty, but Anto Flood rattled the bar with the spot kick.
