Flood brace gives Galway convincing win over Drogheda
Galway United 3 Drogheda United 1
A stunning first goal for the club from Anto Flood sent Galway on their way to their most convincing win of the campaign.
Flood, who would score twice, opened his account after just two minutes.
Karl Sheppard’s pass was deflected to Flood, but the ball sat up perfectly for the Dubliner to rifle a volley from 20 yards past Paul Murphy.
Defender Rhys Meynell added to that on 23 minutes when volleying home Stephen O’Donnell’s corner.
It was 3-0 six minutes into the second half when Flood tapped home Sheppard’s cross.
Any hope of a Drogheda revival ended within two minutes when midfielder Eric McGill was sent off for a foul on O’Donnell, his second booking.
Drogheda got a consolation goal back within a further two minutes from a Corie Treacy header.
