Rafa relying on home comforts
Liverpool have made comebacks something of a trademark in recent seasons and manager Rafael Benitez is confident his side can turn things around having lost their Europa League semi-final first leg 1-0 to Atletico Madrid.
Former Manchester United striker Diego Forlan snatched a scrappy goal in the ninth minute when, having botched his header from Jose Manuel Jurado’s left-wing cross, he made no mistake second time around when the ball dropped at his feet.
Liverpool had three decent chances to equalise before the half was out, Yossi Benayoun first heading wide at the far post and then having a goal wrongly disallowed for offside, before captain Steve Gerrard uncharacteristically blasted into the side-netting without testing goalkeeper David de Dea.
Already in this Europa League campaign Liverpool have lost 1-0 in Lille and 2-1 in Benfica and come through strongly in the home second leg.
And that is before you even count the most famous comeback of them all in the 2005 Champions League final against AC Milan.
Benitez sees no reason why they cannot repeat the feat once again to book their place in the Hamburg final on May 12.
