Gary O’Neill earned Sporting a point with a late equaliser at Terryland Park.

In-form Sporting went ahead after just nine minutes, a move begun and finished by Eamon Zayed.

Zayed initially won possession to work the ball to Ronan Finn. He combined with Gary O’Neill whose pass was intercepted to run kindly for Zayed who shot to the net in off a post.

Karl Sheppard levelled just past the hour mark with a stunning long-range effort, a real goal-of-the-season contender.

Anto Flood then put Galway in front on 72 minutes when latching onto Bobby Ryan’s flick to shoot past Darren Quigley.

But O’Neill scored a sniffer’s goal two minutes into stoppage time as Galway failed to clear a free-kick into their area.

Sporting had midfielder Keith Quinn sent off a minute later for a bad tackle on Jamie McKenzie.
