Club soccer player suspended, fined after betting on matches

Coleraine FC player Sam Morrow has been suspended and fined after a FIFA investigation found he had placed bets on several matches in the League of Ireland competition from April 2008 to July 2009.

Coleraine FC player Sam Morrow has been suspended and fined after a FIFA investigation found he had placed bets on several matches in the League of Ireland competition from April 2008 to July 2009.

Morrow was found guilty of infringement of Article 13 of the FIFA Code of Ethics.

He is suspended for six months, with three months partially suspended.

Mr Morrow has also been ordered to pay a fine of 2,000 Swiss Francs (€1,390) within 30 days.

In a statement this morning, the FAI said: "The Irish FA fully supports FIFA’s stance, not only on the Code of Ethics, but on their position regarding Mr Morrow and is totally committed to preserving the transparency in our sport."
