A second half penalty earned suspension- and injury-hit Shamrock Rovers a point before a crowd of 2,858 at the Showgrounds.
Having forced a tip-over save from Alan Mannus early on, Eoin Doyle gave Sligo the lead against his former club on 22 minutes.
The one-time Hoops striker got on the end of a Richie Ryan cross to steer the ball past Northern Ireland international keeper Mannus.
The Hoops levelled in controversial circumstances on 64 minutes when James Chambers fired home a penalty awarded when his free kick struck the Sligo wall and Cork referee Anthony Buttimer appeared to give the spot kick for a handball.
Sligo almost snatched it two minutes from time, but Mannus got down well to parry Matt Blinkhorn's drive.
