McFadden a doubt for Blues

Birmingham boss Alex McLeish will check on the fitness of striker James McFadden before finalising his line-up for the FA Cup quarter-final with Portsmouth at Fratton Park.

Birmingham boss Alex McLeish will check on the fitness of striker James McFadden before finalising his line-up for the FA Cup quarter-final with Portsmouth at Fratton Park.

McFadden suffered a groin injury during the home win against Wigan and was ruled out of Scotland’s mid-week international with the Czech Republic.

If he is unavailable, then McLeish has the option of recalling summer signing Christian Benitez or giving a rare outing to veteran Kevin Phillips.

The former Scotland boss has no other new injury worries after City reached the 40 points mark last weekend to virtually guarantee Barclays Premier League status for another season.

Birmingham defender Roger Johnson was in the Cardiff side beaten by Portsmouth in the 2008 FA Cup final.

Birmingham (provisional squad): Hart, Carr, Johnson, Dann, Ridgewell, Larsson, Ferguson, Bowyer, Fahey, Jerome, McFadden, Taylor, Phillips, Benitez, Michel, Parnaby, Vignal, Gardner, Queudrue.
