Juventus captain Alessandro Del Piero has not given up hope of playing at the World Cup this summer.

Del Piero has not featured for the Azzurri since Euro 2008 yet with less than 120 days to go to the top event in South Africa, he is upbeat about his chances.

“It’s clear that my dream is the World Cup,” said Del Piero.

“To wear the Italy colours is the highest aspiration of any athlete and to represent your own country in the World Cup is an indescribable joy.

“I have played so many times for the Azzurri, experienced sad moments but those were all forgotten when I won the World Cup.”

The 35-year-old Del Piero, who was a member of Italy’s World Cup winning side in 2006, has scored four goals in 13 league appearances for Juve this campaign.
