Liverpool and Manchester United fought out a tense first half in a crucial Barclays Premier League clash at Anfield.

United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar made outstanding saves from Dirk Kuyt and Fabio Aurelio as Liverpool sought to gain an early advantage.
