A goal from Matt Blinkhorn 14 minutes from time put Sligo Rovers into the FAI Ford Cup final as they overcame First Division Waterford at a packed Showgrounds tonight.

Bustling striker Blinkhorn rose to head home Owen Morrison’s cross to put the Bit ‘O Red into their first final since winning it for the second time in 1994 - to delight the bulk of the 4,000 crowd.

Blues had the better of the first half with their top scorer Graham Cummins heading over with their best chance on 16 minutes.

But Rovers, following the introduction of the influential Morrison, got on top in the second half and deserved their place in the November 22 decider against either Sporting Fingal or Bray Wanderers who meet in Sunday’s second semi-final.
