Cork City looking for third spot

Cork City will look to secure third place in the league with victory over Drogheda United at Turner's Cross tonight, kick-off 7.45pm.

Billy Dennehy misses the game through suspension, while Dan Connor, Joe Gamble and Timmy Kiely all remain sidelined with knee injuries.

Davin O’Neill was a late withdrawal from the side that defeated Rovers, having picked up a knock in the warm-up, and he is also a doubt ahead of the game.

City boss Paul Doolin said: “Drogheda may be towards the bottom of the table, but their form has improved steadily over the course of the season, and they had an excellent result on Tuesday night.

“Every game in this league is tough, no matter who you are playing, and our defeat to Bray a couple of weeks ago was proof that you cannot underestimate anyone.

“The main thing for us is to focus on our own game and to give the kind of performance level we showed on Tuesday night (beating Shamrock Rovers).”

Drogheda have no injuries ahead of the trip south and Connor Kenna returns to the squad after serving a suspension.

United boss Alan Mathews said: “It’s going to be a tough game. Cork have proved that they aren’t by any means uninterested in playing. They have shown they still want to win despite their off field problems.

“We need to pick up three points. As far as I am concerned nothing has been decided yet, the automatically relegated team hasn’t been decided neither have the teams in the playoff.

“Bray are still a danger and they have a few games left to play. We just need to worry about ourselves.”
