Win lifts Pats' survival hopes
St. Patrick’s Athletic 2 Bray Wanderers 0
Goals from Ryan Guy and skipper Damian Lynch gave St. Pat’s a massive lift as both sides missed a penalty at Richmond Park.
The win does leave Pete Mahon’s Saints still in the relegation play-off zone, but they are level on points with Sligo Rovers with a game in hand.
The defeat, their sixth in seven games, means bottom-of-the-table Bray can now only get a play-off spot at best.
Guy headed Saints in front on 31 minutes from Stephen Maher’s superb cross.
Gary Dempsey then had his penalty brilliantly saved by Chris O’Connor five minutes before the break as Saints blew a chance to double their lead.
But they did just that on 68 minutes when Lynch scored with a fine glancing header from Gareth O’Connor’s corner.
Bray had a chance to get back into it on 84 minutes when Jason Gavin hauled down Dave Mulcahy. But Saints’ keeper Brendan Clarke dived the right way to stop Stephen Brennan’s spot kick.
