Amond the toast of Tallaght

Substitute Padraig Amond was the toast of Tallaght as his late winner beat arch-rivals and reigning champions Bohemians to put Shamrock Rovers two points clear at the top of the Premier Division table.

A dour game only really came to life in the second half when Rovers finally edged in front on 79 minutes when substitutes Sean O’Connor and Amond combined.

Ken Oman needlessly fouled Amond. Rovers’ Craig Sives then headed down O’Connor’s free-kick and Amond shot home at the near post.

Bohs then blew a chance to level on 86 minutes after a foul by Pat Sullivan on Glen Crowe gave them a penalty. So incensed were Rovers by the decision, Sullivan was sent off for dissent towards referee Alan Kelly while an object thrown by the Rovers' crowd struck a linesman.

The drama quickly continued as Jason Byrne blazed the penalty over the bar as Rovers held out for a huge win.
