St Pat's look to learn from Waterford clash

Having drawn 1-1 at the RSC on Saturday night, St Patrick’s Athletic face Waterford United at Richmond Park tonight in a replay of their FAI Ford Cup quarter-final tie, kick-off 7.45pm.

Declan O’Brien is cup-tied for Jeff Kenna’s side, while David Partridge (hamstring) and Mark Quigley (hamstring) join Jamie Harris (hamstring) and Garret O’Connor (knee) on the sidelines.

Darragh Ryan made a substitute appearance on Saturday night having recovered from a recent hip injury so may be in contention to start tonight.

Kenna said: “We always knew that Saturday night was going to be tough. Waterford play direct football and we didn’t cope as well as we should have with some of their play.

“In the second half we started to play some good football and eventually we got the goal that we deserved. We’ll need to start the match in the same way we played in the second half.

“At the moment we’ve got two out of our three recognised centre-halves out injured so being able to call on a versatile player like Stuart Byrne is a godsend.

“He slotted in well at the back on Saturday, won more than his fair share of headers and made a big contribution for us on the night.”

Waterford travel to Inchicore without injured duo Paul McCarthy and David Grincell.

United boss Stephen Henderson must also plan without Paul Walsh who is cup-tied.
